Friends of the Library
Thank you to all who worked and shopped at our annual Chocolate Affair and help support your Library!
The meetings are at the library, either the conference room or the reading room, and last about an hour at the most, often less. We are an informal and friendly group, not at all intimidating, we promise. Maybe we are a little fanatical about books and reading, but since you clicked on the button for the Friends of the Library, you are probably our kind of person and will fit in fine.
Check out the furniture as you enter the library as the Friends donated money towards paying for it. It gives the library a much more welcoming look as you come in, doesn't it? We recently donated money towards the matching grant that bought children's books for the library. Take a look at them, they were beautiful. They ordered a few more for older children since this was the area that needed it the most. Also, new DVD's are being ordered. We also donated money towards the summer reading program. We had some wonderful performers and the children (and adults) always enjoy the programs very much. The Friends of the Library donated money in December of 2011 to the Adams County Library to be used for a new Coffee Bar in the Reading Room. Be sure to stop by and enjoy a cup while reading your favorite book or magazine.
General Information About the Friends
of the Library
We are a group dedicated to providing assistance to our local library. We have done such things as arrange for speakers, write grants, and organize gatherings to send off or welcome library employees. As a group, we have raised money to help pay for the new library and have bought shelving, computers, reference materials, decorations for the library (like the furniture in the entry way and the overhead kites), books, pictures, microfiche machine, bags for books. In addition, we donate money every year for the summer reading program to help pay for some of the performers and for some of the prizes.
In February is our annual fundraiser, the "Chocolate Affair" a craft and candy sale. Vendors had a variety of booths selling everything from jewelry to book to candy and other tasty treats. In addition, the Friends of the Library made and served lunch. If you would like to attend or have a booth at the Chocolate Affair, it is always the first Saturday in February and is held in the Middle School in Adams. Margo Beaver is our contact person for vendors 339-7662 and Alice Parr 339-6062
. If you send a message to the library, they will forward it to us. This is our main fundraiser, along with a brat fry and AFCM (IGA) slips. If you have register tapes for the AFCM, please put them on the jar on the library desk.
We'd appreciate it!
