It's Adorable Animal April at the library! Help us fill the walls with pictures and prose about the pets you love. Did your dog, Ralph, steal shoes when he was a puppy? Did your sister start screaming because your snake, BoBo, was all curled up around her bowling trophy? Did your cat, Mr. Whiskers, jump in the neighbors pool to "hunt" the rubber mouse that was floating in the water? Tell the world of Deerfield about your pet and what makes it special. Attach a photo to a sheet of paper and include your pet's name, age, and breed/type of animal. Then write as much as you want about what makes your pet special. Jazz it up with artsy borders and 3d extras or whatever makes it your own creation. Drop it off at the library and we'll hang it up AND post it on Facebook. The library will have paper available for you to use through April 19, PLUS on April 3rd and 10th (Thursdays), we'll have crafty extras set out for you to use if you need them to complete your work of art. Artwork can be dropped off throughout the month of April, but remember, the earlier you drop it off the longer everyone can enjoy it. Everyone is invited to participate--kids, adults, as a family, as a classroom....

Start working on adorable-izing your library with your very own pets!

" The Love and Logic Institute is dedicated to making parenting and teaching fun and rewarding, instead of stressful and chaotic. We provide practical tools and techniques that help adults achieve respectful, healthy relationships with their children. All of our work is based on a psychologically sound parenting and teaching philosophy called Love and Logic." (from the website)

The library is partnering with The Bridges program to offer a six-week Love and Logic class. The class will meet Tuesday evenings starting April 8th from 6:30-8:00 p.m. Joyce Gilmour will be the instructor. Joyce has been facilitating Love and Logic parenting classes for over twenty years. She is the adoptive mom of five children and taught 36 classes of third graders. Love and Logic changed her family as well as her classroom, and she shares these strategies with people because Love and Logic works!

There is a $30 per person charge for the classes, and you can contact to enroll or sign up at the library. We look forward to seeing you!

In February, the library introduced the "LOVE BOARD" made especially for patrons to write down and share their favorite books (fill out a heart with title and author of a book you love and put it on the board). From all the hearts that were on the Love Board, we created a list of best-loved books in Deerfield and turned that into bookmarks! One bookmark has the list of adult and young adult favorites, and another has the list of juvenile favorites. You can never have enough bookmarks, right? And you may find something to add to your OWN reading list. Add these special bookmarks to your collection!
