It's a Crime!  ... a book discussion group for Mazomanie's readers of murder, mayhem and mystery!

Our Pick for November is Killing Grounds by Dana Stabenow (1998).

Dana Stabenow writes mysteries so firmly rooted in the natural world that their sense of place becomes a vital part of the plot. This book is about Native Alaskan crime solver Kate Shugak, the ocean and the men who fish it. When a particularly nasty fisherman is murdered, there's no end of suspects--including members of Kate's own family. The background allows Stabenow to examine the predicament of commercial fisherman threatened by fish farms, native subsistence fishing and lucrative sport fishing. As usual, Aleut customs are seamlessly woven into the plot. In powerful prose, Stabenow evokes Alaska's rugged physical splendors and the toll taken on the humans who live there.

Meeting date is Tuesday, November 11 at 7:00 pm.  If you would like to be added to It's a Crime! members e-mail list, please call the library at 795-2104. We will alert you to any changes in the meeting schedule or other club updates.
