"Libraries are not made, they grow." In 1900, the first seed was planted in Portage, and our library has grown ever since. A large part of this growth has been due to memorials, gifts, bequests, and endowments provided by concerned civic-minded citizens. There are many ways to help the library continue to grow:
- Purchase a Memorial book for the collection.
- Endow a special service.
- Establish a trust fund for books or other materials.
- Make an outright bequest or gift to the library for use as the Library Board sees fit.
- Establish a charitable remainder trust for the benefit of the library.
All donations are tax deductible.
The Library Board has designed a new brochure detailing the Portage Public Library Memorials Program, available at the circulation desk.
The library serves as a contact for those requiring Braille and talking books (provided free by the Library of Congress) as well as providing large print books and books on tape.
Volunteers regularly visit the nursing home to read and provide materials to residents.
Volunteers provide delivery of materials for those physically unable to visit the library. Call for information.
