FAMILY FUN

The Reedsburg Public Library will host these family events.



Musicians:  Ken Lonnquist and Jon Vriesacker
Tuesday, June 12 @ 6:30 in the Library’s Community Room. 

Join Ken, a much-loved performer and songwriter, and Jon, a native son who loves to play the fiddle, for a concert to
kick-off to the Summer Library Program. What a great way to celebrate Reedsburg’s Butterfest. 

Sweet Dreams Storytimes
Tuesday Evenings @ 6:30pm. June 19, 26, July 3, 10, 17 and 24th.

This is an evening storytime for the entire family that will include books, songs and signing
using American Sign Language(ASL). Feel free to wear your PJ’s!

Starry Family Craft Night
Thursday, June 28 @ 6:30pm in the Library’s Community Room. 

The Library will provide the materials and instructions for a star-studded night of crafts.
Parents and caregivers should plan on assisting their children with their projects.

Family Movie Night
Thursday, July 5 @ 6:30pm in the Library’s Community Room. 

Bring pillows, blankets and snacks to enjoy a free family film on the Library’s Big Screen.

Worm Races 20th Anniversary!
Thursday, July 19 @ 6:30pm in the Library’s Community Room. 

Worm races have been part of the Library’s Summer Library Program for the past 20 years.
This year we are celebrating with Dirt Cake for all! Worms are also provided.

Hamster Olympics
Thursday, July 26 @ 6:30pm in the Library’s Community Room. 

Pet owners will register their rodents to compete in Olympic-style events. 
Spectators are welcome.

Incredible Bats
Friday, July 27 @ 2 pm in the Library’s Community Room.  
   
The entire family is invited to discover the wonder of bats. 
This multi-media presentation with live Egyptian Fruit Bats
will teach us how beneficial these creatures are to us and the world around us.

Loganville Book Bunch
Wednesday, June 13, 20, 27, July 11, 18, and 25 @ 10am at the Village Hall 

Kids of all ages and their families will Dream Big-READ in Loganville as we take the
Reedsburg Public Library’s Summer Library Program on the road. 
Be ready for crafts, stories and book check-out.

Monday Movie Matinee
Free movies will be shown on the big screen in the Library’s Community Room Monday afternoons
at 2pm beginning June 11th.  The films will be rated G or PG. 
Check the movie posting board for each week’s feature.

PRESCHOOL PROGRAMS




Babygarten
Parents, caregivers, siblings and babies 0-24 months are welcome to join us in the Community Room for 45 minutes of
books, songs, rhymes and free playtime.  No need to register. 
Mondays @ 10am June 4, 11, 18, 25, July 2, 9, 16, 23 August 6, 13, 20 and 27.

Junior Lunch Bunch Tuesdays
These storytimes are for families with preschoolers and their siblings.  Everyone is invited to bring a picnic lunch and a blanket to the Community Room for 45 minutes of stories, puppets and music.  No need to register.
Tuesdays @ noon – June 5, 12, 19, July 3, 10, 17 and 24.

Wednesday Morning Storytime
This is a “second helping” of Junior Lunch Bunch for families or daycare groups that may prefer storytime
without the picnic lunch. 
Wednesdays @ 10am – June 6, 13, 20, 27, July 11, 18 and 25.

Preschool Players
Celebrates its 10th season with A Tuck Me in Tale, a play which includes characters from our favorite bedtime stories.  Children ages 4 and 5 will rehearse on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon and perform on Thursday evening in the
Library’s Community Room.  Space is limited, so please register.
Session I:  Rehearsals-June 19 & 20 3-3:45 pm.  Performance-Thursday June 21 @ 6:30 pm
Session II:  Rehearsals-July 10 & 11 3-3:45 pm.  Performance-Thursday July 12 @ 6:30 pm

DISCOVERY PROGRAMS FOR ELEMENTARY AGE CHILDREN


Curious Kids(children entering 1st-3rd grades) 1pm
Quest Seekers(children entering 4th and 5th grades) 3pm

Thursday:  June 14, 21, 28 July 5, 12, 19 and 26 in the Library’s Community Room.

Performer, Mary Tooley and her program called “Going Batty-Animals that Work the Night Shift” will kick off the Discovery programs for elementary age kids on Thursday, June 14th.  We will learn about nocturnal creatures including raccoons,
owls, skunks and each child will create a possum project to take home. 

To ensure enough materials will be available, please register each week in the Children’s Area of the Library for the
Discovery Programs that will also include crafts, Legos, theater, Wii and more.

 

READING EDUCATION ASSISTANCE DOG (R.E.A.D.)

Thursday:  June 14, 28 July 12, and 28 in the Library’s Storytime Room from 2-3pm.

The Reedsburg Public Library is thrilled to have a R.E.A.D. dog as part of the Summer Library Program.
Children of all ages are welcome to read to a dog that has been trained for this national literacy program.

Reedsburg Readers – Book Discussion Clubs
Join this book club for an exciting time of book related activities.  Bring your library card to each meeting so you
can check out the next book to be discussed. Space is limited, so please register.

Reedsburg Readers I-Children entering 2nd and 3rd grades

Tuesdays @ 1 pm June 12, 19, July 3 and 17

Reedsburg Readers II-Children entering 4th and 5th grades
Tuesdays @ 1 pm June 12, 26, July 10 and 24

READING INCENTIVE PROGRAMS

Children earn an envelope filled with coupons from area businesses if they meet their reading goal. 
To receive an incentive envelope the Reading Incentive program must be started before July 1st.


Read-to-me Program is for pre-readers Children participate with family members or friends who read stories to them and record the books in a reading folder. The reading goal for the Read-to-me Program is at least five books per week.

Reading Club is for independent readers through 5th grade who set their own summer reading goal. 
The independent readers record their book titles in their folders. 

All children are encouraged to come to the library weekly for stickers that mark their progress.  The prize envelope with valuable coupons from local businesses will be awarded to children at the end of the program for reaching their reading goal.  A list of the participating businesses can be located in the Children’s Area of the Library.

Saturday, August 4th is the last day to turn in your reading folders and collect your prize envelopes.
