UNATTENDED CHILDREN
One of the primary missions of the library is to provide a variety of services for people of all ages. The library encourages visits by children, and it is our desire to make these visits both memorable and enjoyable for the child. Parents are asked to come with their children, not only for their own safety, but to show respect for other Library patrons. An “unattended child” is defined as a child 8 years of age and under who is not under the immediate control of a parent or other caregiver. Library staff cannot be expected to assume responsibility for the care of unsupervised children in the library. Parents are responsible for their children’s behavior while at the library.
A. If a young person is attending a program, it is required that the parent or other caregiver remains in the library throughout the program.
B. If the caregiver cannot be located within five minutes or if the library is closing, call the Reedsburg Police Department (524-2376) and turn the child over to them. The responding officer should make the determination about whether or not the child can return home alone.
