GADE1-41 Vol. 3 Bandstand, City Park: RTP, June 17, 1910: "Visitors to the city park no longer need sit with their backs toward the band stand in order to rest their eyes, for the neat, tasty appearance of the new structure is a delight to tired eyes. Constructed carefully with due regard to symetry and beauty of architecture, the City Council are to be congratulated on having as handsome a band stand as may be found anywhere. The lower part of the stand is of substantial red paving brick while the upper portion and the pillars are of wood neatly painted white. The green roof

harmonizes with the foliage which is thick about it. Will Townsend deserves the applause since he made the plans and superintended the building of this handsome band stand. Caretaker Tim Kelley has worked faithfully to get the park in first class condition. His interest and endeavor in trying to make the park a real 'pleasure spot,' is worthy of praise and now the one thing lacking has been supplied and the park is ready to stand the inspection of the most critical."
