Special note to users of LINK network access stations:

This page is http://www.scls.lib.wi.us/staff/shortcuts.html (or, more simply, www/staff/shortcuts.html), last updated June 10, 1996.

Because LINK workstations are all part of the SCLS Internet domain (scls.lib.wi.us), you do not have to give fully qualified host names when connecting to servers in the SCLS domain. The domain qualifier "scls.lib.wi.us" is automagically implied.

So, when manually typing a URL request in Netscape, you can indicate "http://www" instead of "http://www.scls.lib.wi.us", "telnet://link" instead of telnet://link.scls.lib.wi.us", or "ftp://ftpstaff" instead of "ftp://ftpstaff.scls.lib.wi.us".

In addition, any http URL can be entered in Netscape without the "http://" service indicator. This means that to get the SCLS staff services page, all you have to enter is "www/staff", not "http://www.scls.lib.wi.us/staff". This shorthand (unqualifed URLs) will be used extensively in network service documentation to make it more readable.

Network access stations not connected directly to the LINK network (commercial dialup or municipal network stations) must enter fully qualified URLs to access servers in the SCLS domain.
