Floor Plan

Why Renovate Now?
If you have recently traveled up to the library’s second floor, the home of adult and teen services, you most likely haven’t wanted to linger. The lighting is poor, the carpeting is in disrepair, the furniture isn’t terribly comfortable, the space is cramped and worse, the shelving is falling apart.
Renovation Highlights
In partnership with the City of Stoughton, the Stoughton Public Library is beginning the first steps of a second floor renovation. Our goal is to provide a safer and more welcoming space to the Stoughton community.
  • Install library grade shelving
  • Increase square footage
  • Increase display space
  • Improve lighting
  • Install more outlets for laptop users
  • Purchase new seating, tables & desks
  • Replace carpeting
  • Move and enlarge meeting rooms
  • Provide smaller, more space efficient service desk
To complete these renovations, the Stoughton Public Library is committed to raising $250,000.
Improved Accessibility & Safety
While we are raising funds for the second floor renovation, the City of Stoughton will provide funding for other important construction and improvements. We will be able to make the library a more accessible community space, in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
The combined costs of the second floor renovation and the other improvements summarized below, will cost approximately $660,000.
  • Replace single front entry doors with double doors for improved ADA accessibility and add exterior outdoor lighting
  • Enlarge first floor rest rooms to improve ADA accessibility
  • Reconfigure first floor circulation area
  • Install security camera system
For Our Teens
Changes will also include a larger space for our teen area which is housed on the second floor. We look forward to making this a warm, inviting and safe space for our teens and preteens. A dedicated teen space will increase teen use of the library for studying, browsing for materials and hanging out.
How to Get Involved
Are you someone who likes to get involved and be part of our community? If so, there are many ways to lend a hand including holding fund raisers, writing letters to the local paper and asking others to make donations to support the second floor renovation.
